For over 25 years Bruce Ziff has been playing banjo and exploring the rich cultural traditions of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Bruce plays a traditional style, known as clawhammer (or frailing). In recent years, he has studied with a number of current masters of old-time music, including Dirk Powell, Adam Hurt, and Paul Brown. In 2011, Bruce won first place in the old-time banjo category at the Kentucky State championships. His is a founding member of The Strawflowers Stringband, and regularly teaches courses on the bodhran (celtic frame drum) for the Edmonton Public School Board.
